DEPARTMENT OF BIODIVERSITY, CONSERVATION AND ATTRACTIONS – KALBARRI NATIONAL PARK SKYWALK

Scope of Works

Alltype Engineering was contracted to supply, fabricate and assemble the cantilevered walkways for the upcoming Kalbarri National Park Skywalk. The Kalbarri National Park Skywalk is a complex structure, manufactured from high strength plate and steel components that have long lead and technical assembly and welding requirements.

The project is somewhat akin to building a main roads bridge structure with the added complexity associated with being completely cantilevered and taking into account architectural and public appeal requirements.

The steel material was selected for its self weathering “rust” look that blends with the local Western Australian landscape and reduces ongoing maintenance on the installed walkway whilst providing adequate corrosion protection.

Being a key Western Australian Tourism investment having such public prominence also led to Alltype Engineering building a mock up walkway component of the structure to allow key stakeholders to preview the finished product prior to commencement of this stage of the project. This mock up provided a richer appreciation of the walkway compared to computer simulation and modelling and served to allow a gating process for project progression.
